Information Security Executive® (ISE®) West Winners Announced by T.E.N.

Seagate Technology, Denver Public Schools, NBC Universal and City of Seattle Bring Home Top ISE® Awards in 2012

ATLANTA –August 9, 2012 - T.E.N., a technology and information security executive networking and relationship-marketing firm, announced finalists and winners last evening for the ISE® West Awards 2012. Awards were presented at the ISE® West Executive Forum and Awards Gala at the Westin St. Francis, San Francisco. They ISE® Awards recognize both Information Security Executives and Projects for outstanding achievements in risk management, data asset protection, compliance, privacy and network security.

This year’s recipient of the Information Security Executive® Award was Curtis Coleman, CISO, Seagate Technology. Coleman was recognized for his leadership role in helping shape IT security industry policies and best practices. He has served on the strategic advisory boards of several leading security industry companies and is a founding member of both the Bay Area CSO Council and the Lawrence Livermore National Laboratories’ Network Security Innovation Center. He has published over 30 professional and academic papers on information security and is an internationally recognized speaker, on topics of security governance and leadership, computer security architecture, Internet and eBusiness security.

Finalists for the Executive of the Year category were also showcased during the awards program for their achievements in the industry. They included David Gillman, senior manager of IT security operations and engineering, AAA Insurance Exchange and Bill Burns, senior manager networks and information security, Netflix.

The Information Security Project of the Year Award was awarded to Denver Public Schools for “Denver Public Schools Embraces Change, Enhances Agility and Enables Growth through Strategic Approach to Identity and Access Management.” Accepting on behalf of the project team was Josiah Sakayam, senior IAM consultant. By working closely with an experienced partner to develop a calculated, cost-effective roadmap with a sustainable business case on a tight budget, DPS is providing more enhanced services and functions to the organization, students and parents through a formalized Identity and Access Management Program, employees and non-employees are equipped to be more efficient and effective in their jobs thus increasing student quality care, employee efficiencies and organizational effectiveness.

Finalists for the Project of the Year category included Seagate Technology for, “Factory Application Control/Whitelisting Project” and Recreational Equipment Inc. for, “Enterprise Web Content Filtering.”

As part of the evening’s recognition, Jonathan Chow, CISO, NBC Universal, was announced as the ISE® West People’s Choice Award Winner. The award represents the nominee who best exemplifies information security leadership as voted on by the registered attendees.

The ISE® of the Decade West Award was given to David Matthews, deputy CISO, City of Seattle. The award, making its decade debut in 2012, will be given throughout the year to an exceptional information security executive who has achieved the highest distinction in advancing the security industry in their region.  Matthews, a 2008 ISE West Executive Award Winner, was chosen among five previous ISE® Award winner nominees.
