Those of us who live in Las Vegas had a long list of events we could attend last week. I wanted to let you know how happy I am that I chose the events T.E.N. sponsored. The speakers were GREAT choices. I enjoyed meeting the folks from CloudPassage and many of the other vendors that attended and sponsored the events. I learned a lot and met a great group of people and the way you put together these events is always very professional and top notch. Thank everyone for the hard work that I am sure went into providing us with a great week of education and networking.
It is truly inspiring to know there is an entity dedicated to ensuring our profession does not go unrecognized but gets rewarded. People are doing amazing things in Cyber Security and acknowledging and rewarding those efforts helps keep a positive focus on our mission. Too many negative things in the press these days.
As Security professionals, we are constantly fighting an ever-changing battle. Understanding what has worked for others, what hasn’t, and the pitfalls along the way is an invaluable resource that is all too often overlooked. Sharing experiences, information, and insights is critical to staying ahead of the daily challenges we face – and there are few events that compare to the quality of the T.E.N. ISE Events. From the networking, to the keynotes, to the case studies, I will always leave an event with an idea on a new approach to try, a morsel to use in messaging, or an entirely new technology option that I hadn’t heard of before. The ISE events are truly a must attend for any security executive looking to better their programs, their teams, and their careers.
This was my first year participating in the ISE® Events. I appreciated the opportunity to facilitate the panel with Jim Routh, Robert Mazzocchi and John Schramm – all three I’ve had tremendous respect for over the years. Your events always rate the highest with us because they bring the best and the brightest together, they’re classy and well run, the right vendors are partnered, and everything is professional. Thanks to Marci and T.E.N. for putting on a remarkable event.
I don’t think there is a day that one can experience as the day I spent at the ISE® West Executive Forum and Awards! Networking with some of the top security leaders at some of the most prominent companies gave me incredible insights to the challenges that we face as well the approaches and tools that these leading companies utilize in maturing their security posture. As a big plus, the dinner gala was a blast!
I have never seen a more cohesive event for the information security profession. I came from an extensive law enforcement background where cohesiveness was vital to safety and achieving the mission. T.E.N. and the ISE® Awards does the same thing for the Information Security tradecraft by bringing us all together in a vital intelligence sharing forum.
When you look around you realize that not only is all of the very top local information security talent here but all of the very top regional talent as well It’s inspiring to see how much impact the nominated projects have made...
I always look forward to the ISE Executive Forums. The topics discussed are timely, and the opportunity to meet so many people at the top of our field allows me to leverage their expertise in protecting the citizens of our State. It is an invaluable opportunity for me, and I would like to thank you for inviting me.
Thank you ISE® team for such a wonderful event. Though my teammates have attended in the past, this was my first time and your efforts far exceeded my expectations. The speakers were both informative and approachable ~ a rare combination in this industry. During the span of those two days, I learned that my organization is not alone in the fight for computer security, though it can feel like it at times. I made some professional connections with industry leaders, connections I wouldn't have otherwise made. Finally, I found the vendor event to be energizing in that I saw, touched and heard about many new products that will surely be changing the security landscape in the very near future.
The ISE® North America Leadership Summit includes project presentations from security practioners and senior leaders. The interactive roundtable discussions offfer opportunity to learn and share ideas. One of the greatest benefits is meeting other security leaders and forging professional relationships over the years. This Summit is worthwhile. I highly recommend it.
It was a pleasure to be introduced to the T.E.N. team and the wonderful ISE® programs they bring to the Data Protection and Information Security community. I am thrilled to have been selected as Canada's inaugural Information Security Executive® of the Year Award Winner and look forward to the programs ISE® brings to Canada in the years to come.

"The entire ISE program was a great experience that starts with a passionate T.E.N team and their excellent communication. The discussed topics are very relevant, plus the various booths and sponsers do a great job at highlighting their expertise and showcasing their products. These events have the substance to keep you interested, creating a true learning experience with the added benefit of being fun and exciting. Winning the ISE Executive West award is a honor and I am humbled to be a part of this great program. I look forward to future events and highly recommend the ISE Program." Jeff Haskill |

"The ISE conference allows executives to collaborate and exchange ideas on dealing with todays emerging threats and provides an atmosphere where tactical threat intelligence is shared and industry situational awareness is provided." Michael Dierickx |

"I was impressed by the nominees and participants at the ISE Conference. It was a 'who's who' of information security with representatives from some of the largest and well-known brands in the world. The collective knowledge of the attendees was impressive. I was energized to see my strategies validated and pleased to learn many new techniques and approaches to securing information. This is definitely one of the security industry's top networking venues and recognition for excellence." Bobby Dominguez |
|
"We appreciated the ability to put forward our project related to network security and were against some pretty strong contenders. Which did lead me to examine the other nominees and wonder if the Government Category could have been broken out a little more objectively to levels of government as we are a smaller municipality and going up against USPS or the DoD may not have put us in fair contending. That being said, The City of Airdrie was excited to be part of the ISE Programs nomination and we are very proud of the work accomplished alongside Sophos and our internal project members thus far in respect to municipal government and network security." "I am very happy for Rose Hernandez’s team to be recognized for their significant accomplishment and for the hard work and many hours they dedicated throughout the filing season. This award validates how positively their efforts reflect on not only the IRS' IT organization but the entire Service. I am very grateful for them to have been honored in this way." Lauren Buschor |
|
"I am honored to be recognized by my peers and our profession for the work that is accomplished by so many dedicated practitioners that I am fortunate to lead. To receive two prestigious ISE awards from both my peers and industry icons is an honor I will never forget and will strive to live up to every day." Roland Cloutier |

"To be named ISE Central Security Executive of the Decade is an overwhelming honor given the quality and accomplishments of the nominees for this award. All of the nominees exemplify how the role of the CISO/CSO has evolved over the last ten years. The threats have become more prevalent and aggressive. Our security programs have had to evolve to not only meet those threats, but also to be forward-looking to the building of stronger industry responses to those threats. Of my accomplishments, I most proud of my 10-year efforts to help bring actionable intelligence to our industry partners and, most importantly, trying to share my knowledge with younger, very talented students who want to become part of our security community. Many of them have gone on to build successful careers of their own. They are truly the future of our profession. To be recognized for my work over these past 10 years validates that doing the right things for your company, your industry and the future of the security profession are the right approaches to security." "The review of your body of work and the public recognition by your peers at the ISE Awards is extremely gratifying. To be a finalist in two award categories was tremendous recognition for me, but to win both the People's Choice Award and the Security Executive of the Year award is almost overwhelming. To be included among the prestigious security professionals that T.E.N. ISE awards consistently attracts is truly an honor and a privilege and is not taken lightly. As security professionals we must continue to strive for excellence in the digital world, making it a safe place to conduct our business today and in the future. Our sacrifices take center stage at the ISE Awards Gala where we network, collaborate, debate solutions and leave as friends, off to take on the next challenge – perhaps armed with a new idea we collected here. Without Marci and the great staff at T.E.N. putting together the ISE awards program many valued security executives around the country might go unnoticed and many of these projects would remain local initiatives rather than have opportunity to be shared across the security space. It is truly amazing the energy Marci and her team put into supporting our profession and for that we are all extremely thankful". Charles McGann |

"For ten years, the various ISE Programs have provided the most useful and up-to-date resources and insights for information security executives. I'm a proud alum and have continuously refreshed my knowledge of the best practices to lead global security teams directly from the best leaders in the industry."

"This is my 4th year participating in this event or in some way with TEN sponsored activities. The functions consistently deliver high-value educational and networking opportunities in a non-threatening, professional and well organized setting. Keep up the good work!"

"I believe that the macro benefit of ISE to overcoming cyber crime and malicious activity is sometimes lost. It is not just about recognizing information security executives, which is important, but Marci brings together Information Security Executives through her programs in ways no one else has been able to. Tech Exec Networks, Inc. provides a venue to build an effective network of security professionals that collaborate to address the latest threats and can be called on when faced with previously unseen issues. She has really built a national network of friends and colleagues."

"Speaking for the CSX Information Security Team, we were surprised when our IAM project “Forefront Identity Manager 2010 Implementation” was nominated for the 2012 ISE Southeast Project of the Year award. After seeing the caliber of the competition, we never imagined we would actually win!. But even though our first experience participating in a TEN/ISE event was so positive, we can honestly say that it would have been just as good had we been less fortunate.
The ISE event round table and panel discussions were highly informative and provided a rare opportunity to discuss the most current information security risks with CISOs from many large and prestigious organizations cross a broad range of industries. We found all aspects of the event to be highly professional from planning to execution and everything went off without a hitch. We’re very grateful to our sponsor, Fishnet Security, and to everyone at TEN for the award, and for allowing us to participate in the ISE Southeast awards event for 2012." Steve Mead |

"Winning the 2011 North America ISE People's Choice Award is a particular honor for me because the award comes from my peers. In addition, it provides solid validation of the great work by my information security team and the unprecedented executive support for information and data security at Parsons Corporation. My thanks to all who voted for me—I am honored to receive this distinction."

"The T.E.N. team did it again! The two-day ISE North America Leadership Summit and Awards program allowed us to roll up our sleeves and not only get to share our leadership and security knowledge and experiences, but celebrate the successes of the information security community at large."

"The ISE Program provides an excellent blend of security education, benchmarking, and recognition in one event that is quite unique for our industry. It provides a forum for the free flow of information among peers, the opportunity to look ahead at important security trends, and the chance to pause to reflect and honor accomplishments in our field. These events should be on the calendar of every security executive."
Lee Parrish |

"The ISE Forums consistently brings the best and the brightest to an engaging and informative forum. Security professionals have an opportunity to learn from a highly skilled group of experts in the field and gain insights from peers and technology partners. Each ISE program continues to deliver a high quality program well worth your time."

"ISE West 2011 was my first ISE conference and as a CRO, I was not sure what to expect. I was really impressed with how the format allowed for networking, sharing of information and most importantly on-the-spot advise on real time issues and risks that I am dealing with. During the conference I was in the midst of working on a complex contract for IT services and I was able to get great advice during the round table session that helped me to ensure that risks were addressed appropriately. I now have a network of colleagues that I can call on."

"My background in the security industry is much like that of many of the others who work to do the right things to protect their companies. We work hard for years in the dusty corners of the business without recognition. I am truly honored to receive the ISE Central Executive of the Year Award as this is recognition by my peers that along the way I have had a positive impact on my company and our industry. Security people are often lost in the shadows of the business, chasing the shadows that wish to harm their companies. The ISE Forum and Awards programs allows us to recognize our peers for their hard work and great ideas. We learn best if we learn together; we protect our companies best if we share the best ideas."

"I wanted to extend great thanks for the amazing job that T.E.N. did in delivering ISE Southeast. I had a great time networking with my peers, participating in the roundtable discussions and enjoying the environment that was created for the event. "Being nominated by peers for ISE Southeast Award 2011 was an honor for me. More importantly, it is a great way for to thank my team members who have helped put First Data and all our efforts around data protection on security map. Thank you T.E.N. for sponsoring such a high-class event and assembling a great line up of organizations and professionals that have the expertise of tackling and discussing such challenges in application and software security, in a very relaxed and professional setting."

"I was excited to share the day with my industry peers, their achievements are invaluable contribution to the field of Information Security. The executive forums were particularly resourceful and the discussions definitely fostered knowledge sharing and professional networking. The sponsoring vendors were able to offer worthwhile product discussions and I look forward to future TEN events and peer discussions."

"In our industry, it's easy to let the risks, rules and regulations do the talking - but I believe successful information security leadership is all about collaboration and personal connections. That's why I was so thrilled to receive the ISE Southeast People's Choice Award."
Glen Taylor |

"The ISE Program is the epitome of peer learning and networking. You are consistently surrounded by the best of the best security leaders from around the world. The more that I contribute to the group, the more that I get out of the program because I constantly learn from the best CISOs on what they consider to be the best and most current practices and it's made me be a better security leader at the companies that I've served."
Phil Agcaoili |

"The ISE event is an amazing experience, because of the sheer quality of all of the nominees, who are clear leaders in the field. The judges have an unenviable job, but throw themselves into the selection process with enthusiasm. For me, the thing that differentiated the ISE awards from other industry awards was the evident care that was taken in the process, as well as the fact that the judges are all themselves very experienced practitioners of the art and science of Information Security. I was truly humbled to have been recognized in this way. While the recognition of my own abilities is nice, I personally felt that the award also implicitly recognized the incredible contributions of the PayPal Information Risk Management team, as well as the environment of innovation that PayPal has consciously created."
Michael Barrett |

"It was a fantastic event, and it was good seeing all the good security folks. T.E.N. does a first rate job at these events!"

"The entire experience from the roundtable discussions to the awards gala was a great experience. It was a valuable opportunity to interact with my peers from around the Southeast and a valuable learning experience. A big thank you to T.E.N for organizing such a great event to help security executives share ideas and also recognize all the great work we do for our organizations.
Being nominated for the ISE Executive of the Year Southeast is an unbelievable honor. Seeing my name listed with the incredible list of nominees is very humbling and rewarding. I never expected to be selected ISE Southeast People’s Choice Award winner. To win an award that is voted on by your peers is an incredible experience. This award validates all the hard work carried out by my team here at HealthSpring. I really look forward to being involved in other ISE events in the future." Kyle Duke |

"It is often difficult to find networking and thought-sharing opportunities that provide value to the Information Security Executive.
T.E.N. and ISE Programs are one of the few that I continually make time to attend. The peer-led discussions and dialog are an invaluable resource for anyone one the front lines of today's digital battlefield."

"The ISE Award provides the exposure and visibility for security executives both within the recipient company but also within the industry - it is an honor to receive an award such as this from my peers and industry leaders. Security executives need to be critically involved in an organization's strategic planning and this award serves as a top management reminder that our role in the organization is to promote practices to protect the businesses and organization from various information management related threats, while supporting new business endeavors. I would like to thank everyone; the award means a great deal - not only to me but more importantly to my entire organization. My organization is well aware of my responsibility and zeal to provide an effective and efficient proactive security posture and defense against threats -- the networking opportunities associated with the ISE Awards allows not only myself, but my reports to benefit from the personal networking of this organization thru their events, which bring together many of industry's top security executives and our distinguished peers. In summary, I believe the ISE Awards program provides a great opportunity to elevate and further integrate information risk management within the organization and our business operations. " Dennis Brixius |

"This event was a totally new concept. In place of the normal "formal" interaction with my peers, the event was held in a relaxed social atmosphere which resulted in a much more open style of communication that I found to be very useful. It is not often that an evening with a group of Information Security professionals can actually be called fun! I am honoured to have been nominated, let alone have won an award and look forward to seeing the event grow and develop over the coming years." Colin Clark |

"I am deeply grateful to Raytheon and the ISE Awards program for the recognition of our information security program and our team of professionals. The People's Choice Award is an incredible honor and the highlight of 20 years of work in this industry. Most importantly, it is a welcome opportunity for me to publicly thank my staff, my numerous mentors, and our suppliers and partners who have enabled us to create such a highly effective operation."
Michael K. Daly |

"I am very flattered to have been nominated and ever more so to have been named a finalist. I am honored to have had the opportunity to be in the same room with such a great caliber of professionals. I will cherish this forever and hope not to become the Susan Lucci of the ISE Awards event."
Jerry L. Davis |

"Thank you so much to you and your organization for making the ISE West experience happen. Winning the first West award was both a thrill and a humbling experience given the depth of experience and skill represented by the other nominees. This award program brings such great visibility to the information security field and its practitioners. Our field is a dynamic one and the opportunity to share ideas and network with other CISOs is invaluable - with our busy lives, it's hard to "get out" these days but your organization makes it time very well spent, especially as we all evolve our programs!"
Melodi Mosley Gates |

"The Information Security Executive of the Year Award focuses attention on the importance of information security for those organizations, large and small, that are becoming more and more dependent on technology. I am particularly grateful for the award program because it recognizes information security as a profession and recognizes those individuals who are striving to raise security awareness in their organizations."
Ann Garrett |
|
"I don't look at [the award] as individual recognition, ... [but] as a good reflection on the organizations we're in. Looking at the nominees, I'm looking at the best of the best. Every organization is a little bit different in title or structure. But it says to me that for these companies, [information security] is on their radar screens, and they have dedicated the resources to keep critical information safe."
Lynn Goodendorf |
|
"The ISE Award experience gave me a great opportunity to gain visibility and influence inside my company and with the info sec community at large. My network widened, and the information sharing opportunities and personal career growth continue to be exciting. All this in addition to the great fun we have as a community when we gather together to celebrate each others accomplishments."
Suzanne Hall |
|
"I can't express too many superlatives about the ISE Awards Program Series. As a process it's well structured; the experience allows the nominee to feel how special they are and what their expertise means to others, their companies, and the information security community at large. How many awards are aimed at the individual's gifts and accomplishments in the world of information security? It's normally the projects we have achieved, not us and our individual body of work in this field. It was a personal honor to have been involved. Marci McCarthy, thanks for your efforts in bringing awareness of excellence to a group of individuals in the world of Information Security. "
Sharon L. Kaufman, CISM, CISA |
|
"I was overwhelmed with the outpouring of support the other evening and throughout this process. I'm very proud to represent Information Security Professionals and the ISE Awards Program. I will always cherish the award!!!"
Robert F. Lentz |

"The awards gala was an outstanding experience. The knowledge and expertise demonstrated by the round table participants, a cross-boundary mix of public/private security leaders from across the country, provided unique insights on how to create integrated solutions. There are opportunities to meet and engage peers in a relaxed atmosphere which helps to build better understanding and a national visibility on our security issues. Most of all, it was an honor and a privilege for our State of Michigan Security Team 's accomplishments to be recognized as exceptional by respected industry peers." Dan Lohrmann |
|
"It was an honor being nominated for the ISE Awards and share this with my entire team at Partners, from management to technicians, which have taken Information Security as a very important vertical in the total service that we provide our patients. Being involved with the ISE has facilitated the exchange of ideas as we are all working towards the security and protection of all of our data. It has been our pleasure being associated with such a fine organization. I look forward to many years with ISE and all of the many other security professionals associated with this organization."
Bob Pappagianopoulos |

"Marci McCarthy has done a tremendous job putting together a program that provides both an interactive forum amongst colleagues as well as a recognition program for an inconspicuous, yet critical, part of businesses - security and risk management. They re-acquainted me with respected peers and enabled new relationships with people sharing similar concerns and aspirations. The dialog directly addresses pressing issues of the day and the networking enables sharing of ideas and experiences that have led to avoided mis-starts and faster, more relevant results. Marci's staff project an attitude of service, energy and respect that is second to none, and the experience has been extremely fulfilling."

"The recognition from industry peers of the ISE awards offered me a wonderful experience shared with my information security team at DTCC. They take great pride in their work and deserve the recognition more than I do. The ISE® Awards have been instrumental in raising the profile of information security practitioners and leaders. "

This award meant so much to me because it recognized the hard work of the security team at CheckFree, many of whom were in attendance at the event, who have been so diligent, reliable and dedicated this year and every year to protecting our clients and their customers. As anyone in the chief security officer role knows, it's a team effort and I was so proud for everyone to know - the CheckFree team rocks." Ed Sarama |

Once again thank you and best wishes." Craig Shumard |
