Fred Spencer is the Chief Information Security Officer at Everest Re. He has an extensive background in software development, cyber security and operational risk management practices, business and data architectures, quality assurance and global regulatory frameworks.
Fred was previously the head of Data and IT Risk Management at Societe Generale where he established and guided operational risk practices and created their Data and IT Risk Management programs with specific focus on data controls, cyber risk, technology risk oversight and regulatory compliance.
Prior to joining Societe Generale, Fred was a Senior Examiner with the Federal Reserve Bank of New York (FRBNY) with responsibility as the primary IT Risk Supervisor assigned to AIG. There he worked with senior executives and the Board to ensure AIG’s cyber defenses, digital strategy, risk management programs, governance practices, and internal audit activities were in-line with regulatory parameters.
Fred also previously worked for Merrill Lynch and JP Morgan Chase where he held various global roles including Chief Technology Officer for cyber security, operational risk, IT risk and vendor risk, head of risk and finance data management, head of FDIC/regulatory infrastructure, chief business technologist for credit risk analytics, and head of global data warehousing architecture.
Fred is recognized for establishing one of Wall Street’s first global reference and master data collection and distribution platforms, and an award winning internally developed operational risk management tool. Fred is a frequent participant at industry forums on risk management and data topics and has contributed to two-risk management pending patents. Fred served on the Rutgers University Cyber Security Advisory Board, the New Jersey CISO Governing Body, and the Op-Risk NA Advisory Board.
Frederick holds an MBA from Fairleigh Dickinson University and earned CISM, CDPSE, CRISC, CGEIT and ICBRR industry certifications.
