Steve Winterfeld is the Technical Director for TASC’s Mission Engineering Business Unit with over 1500 people supporting over 45 customers around the world doing around $500M annually. He has a strong technical and leadership background in Cyber Security, System Certificating & Accreditation, Training, Military Intelligence, Simulations and Project Management.
Currently he additionally is the technical lead for building the TASC Cyber Security Practice. He also serves as the Security Manager for the TASC enterprise security labs called ‘TERANet’ (with labs located across the country). Finally he is the Lead for the Vulnerability Assessment and Penetration Test Team and is the primary instructor for the Cyber Warrior Course on hacker mentality & methodology.
Past accomplishments include building the Computer Emergency Response Center for US Army South which is responsible for monitoring security real time and conducting forensic investigations on intrusions. He also was the Senior Computer Security Advisor for Global Hawk Unmanned Aerial System (UAS) in charge of getting the first approved Certificating & Accreditation (C&A) for the aircraft. In the Army he served as an Airborne Ranger, Electronic Warfare (EW) Company Cdr, Armor Bn Intelligence Officer (S2), Signal BN Executive Officer (XO) and finished his career as Command and General Staff Instructor for USAR.
His extensive experience within both DoD and commercial security consulting gives him a great base to teach about today’s cyber threatscape. He holds a CISSP, PMP, CISM, SANS GSEC and Six Sigma certifications plus a BA in Journalism plus a MS in Computer Information Systems.
