Stephen J. Lopez, PhD, is the senior director of information security and currently serving as the acting chief information officer for the Association of American Medical Colleges (AAMC). Dr. Lopez leads the information security program which focuses on enterprise risk management, information security architecture, and overall information security governance.
With more than 30 years of experience in leadership, Dr. Lopez' experience in information systems methodologies, data center operations, disaster recovery, business continuity, data and infrastructure best practices, software products, and managed services has proven to enable organizations to achieve their missions and effectively manage risk related to information security. He is highly skilled at managing projects through the continuum of strategy, planning, execution and completion with high client satisfaction and measurable organizational value. He is recognized as a resourceful problem solver and decisive leader who directs organizations in the innovative management and oversight of secure, yet agile, information technology and data infrastructures.
Before his tenure with the AAMC, Dr. Lopez served as vice president of technology services for the National Board of Medical Examiners, where he was responsible for the technology leadership and infrastructure/operations management for $120M medical testing organization, supporting more than 400 employees delivering licensing and testing products in the US, Western Europe, and South America.
