Joseph Lee is the Chief Information Security Officer for Georgetown University, and joined the University in April 2014. In his role at the CISO, Joe supports the CIO on University-wide security strategy and is responsible for the development of a comprehensive, enterprise-wide information security strategy and program for Georgetown University - setting security policies, standards and processes as well as lead the development of enterprise-wide risk profiles. Joe is also principally responsible for ensuring the University’s IT compliance efforts including those for HIPAA, PCI, and FERPA.
Joe has over 27 years of experience in information technology assurance, security, and business process improvement and has held management and leadership roles with leading DC area companies and organizations. Prior to joining Georgetown University, Joe was the Director of Information Security at the AARP where he helped lead the successful development of the Information Security program. During his 11 year tenure at AARP, Joe helped to enhance AARP’s security monitoring and response capabilities, successfully ensure compliance with applicable IT regulations and requirements, and built an integrated security architecture and engineering framework covering data and infrastructure protection.
