Avram Kornberg is a dynamic and experienced global technology leader, with particular expertise in the financial services sector. He has a record of success with Fortune-Class companies such as TPG Capital, MF Global, Moore Capital, OppenheimerFunds, Bankers Trust, Goldman Sachs, JP Morgan Chase, and Citibank.
Avram is exceptional at assessing talent, showing managers how to clear obstacles, and coaching executives to higher levels of performance - skills he honed in the public and private sectors, domestically and internationally. Perhaps most importantly, senior executives and directors routinely comment that “Avram is the tech guy who actually speaks plain English.”
Early in his career, Avram built customer facing software and implemented complex technologies at several leading banks. He held his first Vice President role with Bankers Trust and was subsequently recruited to OppenheimerFunds where he led a technology transformation to empower the Investment, Marketing and Sales teams. Later, as CTO, he built their first web site and led the technology build-out of the company’s temporary headquarters in the wake of 9/11 and was successful in getting all 650 positions back into New York City by December of that year. As the US CIO of Natixis, Avram upgraded all facets of technology while also managing the US Banking Operations. As Moore Capital’s first CIO, Avram rationalized the technology teams and implemented straight-through processing and advanced data warehouse capabilities. As MF Global’s CIO and Executive Committee member, Avram partnered with other executives to build new technology centric businesses (e.g., Program Trading) and become a Primary Dealer, while establishing outsourcing and other initiatives that saved $20MM/year.
As TPG’s first CIO/CTO, he led the technology evolution to facilitate the firm’s diversification into multiple alternative investment vehicles while dramatically improving the cybersecurity profile of TPG and many of its portfolio companies. He reported frequently to the Risk and Executive Committees, and was the chief architect of their Cloud strategy. He also partnered with Deal Teams on numerous due diligence efforts and acquisitions.
Most recently, as the Founder of Stratecution Consulting, LLC., Avram provided advice to startup technology companies and has been the interim CISO for the Options Clearing Corporation (OCC). In that critical role, he is leading the expansion and maturation of the OCC’s cybersecurity capabilities.
Throughout his career, Avram has relentlessly focused on how technology and business processes can be transformed to drive growth and improve the bottom line. In addition, he has been recognized for achieving excellence in cyber security, IT governance, and regulatory compliance. He is dedicated to creating corporate cultures where employee awareness and diligence amplify the effectiveness of the advanced technologies and policies necessary to survive today’s cybersecurity challenges. Avram is on the Advisory Board of two technology companies, Preveil and Datomia. Avram is also a member of the American College of Corporate Directors and the National Association of Corporate Directors (NACD) at both the National level and in the New York Chapter. He is exploring various for-profit and non-profit Board of Director roles.
Avram holds an MBA in Finance from the Stern School of Business (NYU) and a BA in Political Science from SUNY Binghamton. He resides in New York with his wife, spent many years coaching intramural and travel baseball teams, and is an avid tennis player. Avram has two sons who regularly show him that being an avid tennis player is not as good as being a young avid tennis player!
