Mr. Johnson is the Chief Information Security Officer for NantMedia Holding LLC. NantMedia owns and operates Los Angeles Times, San Diego Union-Tribune, and LA Times Studios news media properties serving the Southern California region. In this position he is responsible for the company’s information security and privacy governance including policy, strategy, oversight, incident response and operations.

He held the position of Chief Information Security Officer for Los Angeles County, California from 2018 to 2021. In this position he was responsible for countywide governance of information security including policy, strategy, oversight and incident response.

From 2005 to 2018 he held the position of Chief Information Security and Privacy Officer for King County, Washington in which he oversaw information security and privacy issues for the entire county. In this capacity, he established the information assurance program from policy development, compliance, information risk management, metrics and controls selection, implementation, monitoring and evaluation. Mr. Johnson’s was with King County for 28 years serving in multiple IT and management roles.

Mr. Johnson is an Instructor in the Information Security and Risk Management Continuum Program at the University of Washington and is a member of the advisory board for the program. He is also a certified instructor for of the Holistic Information Security Practitioner Institute (HISPI) certification course. Mr. Johnson was an Adjunct Instructor in the Information Systems and Cyber Security Bachelor’s program at ITT Technical Institute in Seattle from December 2014 until September 2016. Teaching courses on Risk Management, Policy Development and Security Issues in a Legal Context.

He serves on the Board of the Cybercrime Support Network (CSN) for the past 6 years. CSN’s mission is to improve the plight of Americans facing the ever-growing impact of cybercrime by bringing together national partners to support cybercrime victims.

Mr. Johnson is the recipient of the ISE® West People’s Choice 2014 award and was also a nominee for ISE® North America in 2014.

Mr. Johnson served on the Executive Committee and was co-chair of the Education and Awareness Sub-Committee of the Multi State – Information Sharing and Analysis Center (MS-ISAC) from 2013 to 2021.

He held the position of HISPI Governance Board President from April of 2012 to July 2014 and served as Governance Board Secretary for three years prior to assuming the role or President. He continues to serve the institute by maintain and enhancing the training course materials.

Mr. Johnson has a bachelor’s degree in Business Administration from Eastern Oregon University and an Associate degree in Mortuary Science form San Francisco College of Mortuary Science.

He holds multiple certifications in information security, information privacy, network administration and project management.
