Cathy Hubbs became American University's first Chief Information Security Officer in July of 2007. At American she is responsible for shaping the University's information security strategy, architecture and vision. She partners with Risk Management and Legal Council in the delivery of security compliance and awareness programs including information security policies, procedures and security standards. With the help of her able team they actively weave risk assessments into new and existing projects embedding security into the systems development life cycle. She is an active volunteer in organizations that focus on the development of Security Professionals, such as EDUCASE's Higher Ed Council for Information Security, the local Virginia Information Systems Security Association chapter, The CSO Breakfast Club, and Women in Technology. She is a Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA), and Certified in the Governance of Enterprise IT (CGEIT).
