Daniel J. Conroy is Managing Director and Head of the Information Security Group at BNY Mellon Corporation. BNY Mellon operates in 67 countries with a staff of approximately 45,000. In 2009 the company was globally ranked number one in Global Custody Banking, Custody Provider, Provider of Exchange Traded Funds Services, and Custodian of the Year. In 2010, BNY Mellon continues to receive recognitions, including Custodian of the Year (named by the European Pensions Awards), the Best Global Custodian in Asia (for the third consecutive year), Best Fund Administrator — Hedge Funds, and Best in Corporate Trust. The company has emerged as truly a global organization, and Daniel is a key player whose responsibilities reflect this, with staff in the U.S., Europe and Asia. In 2009 Daniel was nominated and received the ‘Best in Class’ BNY Mellon award. This award recognizes individuals or teams who have demonstrated a spirit of dedication and ingenuity at BNY Mellon.
In the last several years, he has enhanced monitoring, identification and control within the BNY Mellon information security environment through the procurement, and implementation, and additional software and toolsets.
His group has responsibility for threat and vulnerability assessments, incident response, security architecture, network monitoring, data loss prevention, policies and standards, security awareness, client assessment/communications, information classification, and database monitoring. Daniel and his group work closely with all components of technology, lines of business, decentralized senior information risk officers, chief administrative officers, internal/external auditors, regulators, external clients, Legal, Global Compliance, and vendors.
This year, he was a speaker at the RSA Conference, and delivered a presentation concerning network access control. Daniel has been in the technology the information security arenas for more than ten years.
Daniel’s philosophy is: We protect client data, at rest or in motion, first and foremost. His expertise spans the protection of information assets, systems, networks and infrastructure. Daniel’s depth and breadth of knowledge and his ability to communicate information security issues to senior management are exemplary; he consistently provides knowledge transfer to other areas and encourages his team to educate others as well.
Daniel attended University College of Tallaght, University of Dublin, and graduated with a B.A.(Hons) Degree in Electronic Engineering. Prior to his current position he was CISO at General Electric's Money Americas Division. In this position he implemented enhanced detection, prevention and mitigation of risks.
Daniel, his wife and baby girl reside in Stamford, CT. He is a nationally and internationally ranked tri athlete and participates in competitions across the US, Europe and Asia.
