Mark Connelly is the Chief Information Security Officer for Thomson Reuters, the world's leading source of intelligent information for businesses and professionals.
Connelly brings more than 30 years of Risk and Security, IT and Business Management experience to Thomson Reuters. He is responsible for developing the risk-based information security strategy for Thomson Reuters and driving it across the enterprise. In this role, he oversees security operations, governance, risk and compliance, application security, policies and controls, infrastructure security and security awareness and training. Connelly joined Thomson Reuters in 2012 to lead a robust transformation of the risk and security function. He was recognized by the Technical Exchange Network with the CISO of the Year Award for the Northeast Region last year.
Previously, Mark was the Chief Information Security Officer with ITT, a multi industry enterprise providing sophisticated imaging electronic and information security services to the US Government.
Previous to ITT, Mark was Managing Director at Credit Suisse, responsible for IT Infrastructure Risk and Security. He was instrumental in developing new policy and standards that were deployed throughout the firm as well as launching new innovative solutions in Risk and Security. He was a key member of the Credit Suisse Risk Governance Committees and the Financial Services Sector Coordinating Council.
Prior to Credit Suisse Mark spent almost 20 years in various leadership positions with Sun Microsystems Incorporated. He established the first Chief Information Security Office at Sun Microsystems and, as CISO, developed comprehensive security frameworks, methodologies and programs to protect information assets and ensure secure corporate and partner resources. While at Sun, Mark liaised with industry groups and the government on issues related to IT security and public policy in the technology and security arena. He also served as Vice President Information Technology, and Director of Systems Engineering during his almost 20 years with Sun Microsystems.
Mark was selected as the 2010 Information Security Executive (ISE) of the Year for 2011. He is a frequent speaker at information security forums around the country. He has worked to build government industry partnerships in the Information Security area through the Security Innovation Network to increase the awareness of innovative emerging companies. He holds an M.S.E.E. from the Server Institute at Washington University, a B.A. from Washington University and an M.A. from University of Missouri. He holds certifications in- Certified information Security Manager (CSIM), Certified in Governance in Enterprise IT (CGEIT), Certified in Risk & Information Security Controls (CRISC). He is a member of ISACA and the Society for Information Managers in NY.
