Roota Almeida is a dynamic senior IT executive responsible for successful implementation of information security, risk and compliance systems and strategies across multiple industries with global operations. Currently, she is the Chief Information Security Officer (CISO) at Delta Dental of New Jersey Inc. (DDNJ), leading the development and implementation of enterprise-wide information security strategy, policies, risk assessments, and controls.

Prior to joining DDNJ, Almeida was the CISO at Covanta Holdings Corp., a leader in Energy-from-Waste. As CISO, she led all aspects of Information security and risk, including global information security awareness programs, policies, business continuity, and incident response teams.

Almeida has over 15 years of direct experience in establishing and maintaining global security strategies, architectures, standards, and compliance while driving the necessary cultural changes to affect measurable improvements in the organizations’ security posture. A recognized industry thought leader, she serves as a faculty and a security awards judge, an advisory board member for a security services organization and as a governing body chair for Evanta’s NJ CxO Summits. Her in-depth experience and expertise in the field of information security and risk management can be measured by the various articles, eBooks, interviews, and podcasts she has to her credit. Almeida is also working to build and encourage new talent and solutions in the security arena.

Almeida holds the following certifications: Certified CISO (CCISO), Certified Information Security Manager (CISM), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP) and Certified in Risk and Information Systems Control (CRISC).
